How many reindeer would Santa Claus need to visit all the children of the world in one night?
“You better watch out, you better not cry, better not pout I’m telling you why, Santa Claus is comin’ to town”. Every year during Christmas time, children from all corners of the world look forward to being visited by Santa Claus who brings presents to all children on his “nice” list. According to lore, eight reindeer, plus a special guest reindeer are known. Santa’s reindeer are named Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen – with special appearances from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on foggy nights.
Recently, US scientist Rod Morgan from the US State Department calculated that if Santa Claus would actually visit all the children of the “Christian” world within one night, he would need 214,000 reindeer. The reindeer would have to carry 321,000 tons of presents and fly 3,000 times faster than the speed of sound. From a scientific standpoint this seems to be impossible, but don’t worry, if you’re on his “nice” list and believe in Christmas magic, then Santa Claus will come to your town this holiday season.
