Can students work in the USA?

 

How many hours per week is it legal for students to work in the USA?

International students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week in the USA while classes are in session. In lecture-free months it is even possible to work full time. For international students there are four employment opportunities outlined by The Department of Homeland Security:

  • On-Campus Employment
  • Off-Campus Employment
  • Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
  • Optional Practical Training (OPT)
