U-Multirank's unique 'Sunburst chart' gives an illustration of a university's performance profile across the five U-Multirank dimensions. These are indicated in different colours. For instance, the teaching and learning dimension is symbolised by the colour green. Each 'sunray' represents one of the thirty plus U-Multirank indicators. The longer the ray, the better the performance of an institution on the selected indicator: a full-length ray stands for 'top group' performance, whereas a short ray means 'weak' performance. A missing sunray indicates that the specific data indicator is not available. An institution's performance in an indicator can be identified by moving the cursor over the rays. A key guard for the sunburst chart is provided here .

The Chemistry degree programme in Erlangen is characterised by high academic demands and the close supervision of students. This applies to both the personal contact between teaching staff and students as well as the support by student tutors and the individual guidance our students receive from the study coordinator, the dean of studies and the Student Service Centre. Carefully coordinated and timed semester curricula are offered for the extensive number of courses. Examination dates are coordinated with each other.

The research focuses of Cultural Geography are embedded in the conceptual framework of "Contested Geographies". Geography is examined as "cultural", i.e. as socially constituted, negotiated, and thus often controversial. The interplay between the constitution of certain spatial orders and their challenge is at the core of the research. The main research areas of Physical Geography are in the fields of climate science and environmental sciences. In terms of methods, they are based on the development of new technologies as well as on the combination of analytical methods and modelling approaches

The Department of Mathematics has strong contacts to the other departments at FAU (Humanities, Engineering, Medicine, Natural Sciences, Economics and Social Sciences), so that contact to the application areas can be easily established already during the degree. If the prerequisites are met, doctoral studies can be pursued after the Master's degree.

We combine lectures and tutorials with innovative elements, e.g. the "project lab course", where gro ups of 5-6 students suggest, construct, perform and analyse individual experiments. We offer support for student beginners to compensate their heterogeneous educational background. Students can define individual priorities through a large spectrum of elective courses and different specialisation options in the MSc course. We foster independent and research-oriented studying early-on. We offer the elite study course for those who are particularly gifted and motivated.
