U-Multirank's unique 'Sunburst chart' gives an illustration of a university's performance profile across the five U-Multirank dimensions. These are indicated in different colours. For instance, the teaching and learning dimension is symbolised by the colour green. Each 'sunray' represents one of the thirty plus U-Multirank indicators. The longer the ray, the better the performance of an institution on the selected indicator: a full-length ray stands for 'top group' performance, whereas a short ray means 'weak' performance. A missing sunray indicates that the specific data indicator is not available. An institution's performance in an indicator can be identified by moving the cursor over the rays. A key guard for the sunburst chart is provided here .

The curriculum was recently reformed to adopt a more integrative perspective, emphasizing skills and attitudes, considering needs in basic care, mental health and health management, with the support of courses on ethics and humanities. Contents are integrated through seminars and clinical projects. The programs’ activities are developed across multiple settings, including the school hospital, other partner hospitals with centres of reference in clinical specialties and basic healthcare units. Bachelor’s students are in contact with residents and physicians with different levels of training.

The program trains biomedical professionals to serve in different capacities in healthcare, but the main focus is on laboratory diagnosis, research and teaching. From its first stages, dealing with basic disciplines, the curriculum comprises courses with practical components, which increase in workload as the courses progress into clinical and professionally applied courses. The program’s last year is structured around a mandatory internship in partner institutions, so that graduates are already engaged in the labor market.

There are specific research groups dealing with the topics of toxicology; mass spectrometry; pollution, oxidative stress and biological effects; and bioactive substances. Research in pharmacy interacts with issues of digital fabrication, entrepreneurship and innovation, public health and rapid prototyping.

The program is the only one in the region to offer evening-shift, tuition-free pharmacist education, aiming to serve working students. The curriculum leads students beyond traditional training in Pharmacy towards action in health promotion and prevention. Thus, in addition to producing medicines and cosmetics, graduates are able to perform food, clinical and toxicological analyses, acting on community healthcare, in fields that have only recently been incorporated to public health policies. Additionally, 20% of the program’s workload takes place in professional settings.

The program develops collaborative research projects to devise biomedical solutions in molecular and cellular biology (particularly in cancer and cancer immunology); drug discovery (particularly nanotechnology and characterization of natural bioactive molecules); and development of alternative preclinical models (using C. elegans). The curriculum combines a formative cycle, with courses and participation in directed activities, and an experimental cycle, with laboratory work, thesis writing and specialized technical-scientific training.

The program trains professionals with solid knowledge of exact sciences, focusing on professional chemistry topics leading to the understanding of the mechanisms of action of biologically active composites in sustaining and improving human health. Complementary courses deal with innovation and entrepreneurship to foster the planning, discovery, invention or modification, identification and preparation of pharmacological composites. The curriculum integrates disciplines and professional fields through teaching, research, outreach, management and innovation to address contextual issues.

Active learning techniques develop students’ agency in didactic strategies that favor practical exercises and the early integration into the professional environment. Students’ abilities of leadership, communication, critical thinking and decision making are fostered across courses on health management, education and care, combining basic and clinical specialties in a humanist perspective. There are opportunities for undergraduate students to apprenticeships in scientific research, teaching, outreach and professional work. Courses in the area integrate psychological care to healthcare systems.

The area seeks social relevance by incentivizing innovative applied research for professional health practices. Graduate students’ research projects are upheld by diverse courses on methodology, and theoretical development is guided by the graduate research areas, dealing with studies on the health of individuals and groups in diverse contexts, considering the role of public policies and aiming at health promotion and prevention; and construction, application and validation of instruments and procedures of psychological evaluation, as well as the evaluation of psychological interventions.

The program trains graduates for professional exercise, with its core coursework aimed at developing general psychologists’ skills to promote psychosocial welfare. Complementary components, chosen by the students, cover a range of activities. The curriculum includes basic and professional internships, which allow for different emphases: clinical processes; psychosocial processes; processes of psychological evaluation. Integrative seminars are present in each curricular year.

The program’s emphasis on the health area, unique in the region, prompts research on health in different scopes: individual, marital, familial, group, institutional and collective, comprehending public policy, also encompassing health promotion and prevention, from basic care to high-complexity processes. The program has an interdisciplinary orientation, admitting students from different fields of training into its two research areas: psychological evaluation and intervention; and psychosocial processes, health and development.
